Savor the Run · Field Guide 01

Run ready:
what to wear

A starting wardrobe for steady road runs of roughly 40–90 minutes.

Find the temperature row, then move across for wind or wet weather. Add or remove one layer if you normally run cold or warm.

Consider postponing

Start slightly cool.

You should expect to warm after the first several minutes. Hard efforts generally need less insulation; easy runs and long stops may need more.

Wind and water change the job.

Use a breathable shell to block exposure. Carry a dry layer when the route is long, remote, or likely to change.

Safety overrides the chart.

Check official warnings, wind chill, ice, and road visibility. Extreme conditions may call for a shorter route, an indoor run, or postponing.
